Eibli Angel (Centropyge Eibli)
Also Known As: Red Stripe Angelfish
Compatibility and Behavior
The Eibli Angel is one of the most colorful, underrated dwarf angels. The body is a soft gray to silver with orange tiger-like vertical striping, accented by a bold orange-red vertical band behind the head and a vivid orange tail rimmed in inky black. It's a refined, almost graphic color scheme that reads very differently from the warmer, more saturated tones you see on species like the Coral Beauty or Flame Angel. Temperament is fairly typical for the Centropyge family: semi-peaceful with most community fish, but potentially assertive toward other dwarf angels or similarly shaped tankmates, particularly in smaller tanks. Keeping it as the sole dwarf angel in systems under 100 gallons is generally the safest approach. On the reef safety front, many hobbyists keep Eiblis without any coral issues, but some individuals will nip at LPS, zoanthids, or clam mantles. Keeping them well-fed goes a long way toward minimizing that risk.
Aquarium Requirements
Like most Centropyge, the Eibli does best in a mature, established system with plenty of live rock. A well-structured aquascape with caves, crevices, and overhangs gives them places to retreat and natural surfaces to graze the biofilms and microalgae they pick at throughout the day. They're adaptable when it comes to lighting and flow, but stable water quality and solid biological filtration are more important than hitting any specific parameter. Feed a varied diet covering both sides of their omnivorous needs: marine algae, spirulina-based foods, and nori for the grazing side, plus meaty offerings like mysis and brine shrimp to round things out. Variety and consistency at feeding time will keep them in good condition long-term.
