Shark Fin Naoko's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus Naokoae)
Also Known As: Naoko’s Fairy Wrasse
Compatibility and Behavior
The name is the hook here: this little wrasse carries an elongated, "shark-fin" style dorsal riding a gently arched back, and on a slender, torpedo-shaped body barely topping 2 inches it's a genuinely distinctive silhouette. Coloration stays on the understated side, soft pinks, oranges, or tans along the flanks with darker edging on the dorsal and tail, which shifts a bit with locality and maturity and makes this a fish that complements a bold centerpiece rather than competing with it. Temperament tends to be peaceful, and it generally does well in calm community reefs, spending its day weaving through the rockwork and mid-water hunting tiny inverts. It's reef safe with corals, though as with most micro-crustacean hunters, individuals can develop a taste for very small ornamental shrimp, so sturdier cleanup crew members are the safer bet in a display.
Aquarium Requirements
Two things matter more than the rest with this wrasse: sand and a lid. It's a dedicated burrower that dives into a fine, soft bed to sleep and whenever something spooks it, so a couple of inches of fine substrate is a real requirement rather than a preference, and bare-bottom or coarse-only tanks won't do. It's also an accomplished jumper that will find the smallest gap, so a tight-fitting lid or mesh top is non-negotiable. Beyond that the care is easygoing: a tank in the 50 to 75 gallon range with a long footprint suits fish in the 1.75 to 2.25 inch range, with open swimming lanes out front and arches, ledges, and shaded nooks worked into the rock. Moderate, well-distributed flow and solid filtration cover the basics, and a varied diet of mysis, enriched brine, small crustacean blends, and quality marine micro-pellets keeps them colored up and active.
