Key Facts
Also Known As: Four Spot Wrasse
Yellow and Purple Wrasse Also Known As: Four Spot Wrasse
Compatibility and Behavior The Yellow and Purple Wrasse (Halichoeres leucoxanthus) is a peaceful, constantly active forager that tends to fit comfortably into most community reef setups. Hailing from Sri Lanka, it generally gets along well with other non-aggressive fish and is considered reef safe — corals and clams are left alone, but small worms and tiny invertebrates it turns up while hunting through rock and sand are fair game. It's the kind of fish that's always doing something, picking through rubble, cruising open water, checking the same rock ledge it checked ten minutes ago — which makes it genuinely fun to watch in a well-aquascaped tank.
Live Arrival Guarantee: Because a deep sand bed is so critical to this species' wellbeing and survival, we're only able to guarantee Coris Wrasses for live arrival. Please make sure your setup is ready before ordering.
Aquarium Requirements Like most Halichoeres wrasses, the Yellow and Purple is a committed sand-burrower — it dives in at night and when stressed, and a soft, fine-grained substrate deep enough to fully submerge itself isn't a luxury, it's a genuine requirement. Without it, this fish struggles. A 50-gallon tank or larger gives it the open swimming lanes it likes while still leaving room for the live rock, caves, ledges, and rubble zones it'll spend its days picking through. Aquascaping that mixes open "runways" with sheltered pockets tends to suit it well. A tight-fitting lid or mesh cover is essential — it can and will jump when startled. Feed regularly with mysis, chopped marine meats, and high-quality pellets to supplement what it hunts on its own.
