Yellow Coris Wrasse EXPERT (Halichoeres Chrysus)
Also Known As: Canary Wrasse
Compatibility and Behavior The Yellow Coris Wrasse is one of those fish that genuinely earns its place in a reef tank — not just as a looker, but as a working member of the cleanup crew. This species tends to be peaceful and generally does well in mixed-reef and community setups alongside other calm fish. One of its more appreciated habits is a natural inclination to hunt pest invertebrates: flatworms, fireworms, and pyramidellid snails are all fair game. That said, larger individuals may take an interest in smaller ornamental shrimp, so it's worth factoring that in before adding one to a tank with prized cleaner or peppermint shrimp. Groups can be kept together, though minor territorial friction is possible in tighter quarters.
Aquarium Requirements A 50-gallon minimum gives this active swimmer the room it needs, but the more important consideration is the substrate. Yellow Coris Wrasses burrow — into the sand at night, when stressed, and sometimes just because they feel like it — and a fine-grained sand bed of at least 2–3 inches isn't optional, it's a survival requirement. A tank without adequate sand depth is genuinely not suitable for this species. Beyond that, plenty of live rock with open swimming space in front and dimly lit nooks tucked into the rockwork will help it feel at home. They're not fussy eaters and will generally take mysis, brine shrimp, enriched pellets, and frozen marine mixtures readily with regular daily feedings.
Live Arrival Guarantee: Because a deep sand bed is so critical to this species' wellbeing and survival, we're only able to guarantee Coris Wrasses for live arrival. Please make sure your setup is ready before ordering.
