Yellow Coris Wrasse EXPERT (Halichoeres Chrysus)
Also Known As: Canary Wrasse
Compatibility and Behavior
The Yellow Coris earns its keep twice over: once as a bright, easygoing addition to the display, and again as a genuine working member of the cleanup crew. This is a fish with a taste for pests, and many hobbyists add one specifically for its appetite for flatworms, fireworms, and the pyramidellid snails that plague clams and snails. Temperament tends toward peaceful, and it generally settles in well in mixed reefs and community tanks alongside other calm fish. Two caveats are worth weighing before you buy. Larger individuals can start eyeing smaller ornamental shrimp, so think twice if you're keeping prized cleaner or peppermint shrimp, and while groups can work, expect a little territorial friction in tighter quarters.
Aquarium Requirements
Here's the thing that matters more than tank size with this species: sand. Yellow Coris Wrasses are dedicated burrowers that dive into the substrate to sleep, to escape stress, and sometimes for no reason you'll ever discern, and a fine-grained sand bed of at least 2 to 3 inches isn't a nicety, it's a survival requirement. A tank without adequate sand depth simply isn't suitable for one, full stop. Get that right and the rest is straightforward: a 50-gallon minimum gives this active swimmer room to roam, and plenty of live rock with open swimming space out front and a few dimly lit nooks will help it feel secure. Feeding is easy, since they're not fussy and will readily take mysis, brine shrimp, enriched pellets, and frozen marine mixes across regular daily feedings.
Live arrival guarantee: Because a deep sand bed is so critical to this species' survival, we can only guarantee Coris Wrasses for live arrival. Please make sure your setup is ready before ordering.
