Yellow Coris Wrasse EXPERT (Halichoeres Chrysus)
Also Known As: Canary Wrasse
Compatibility, Behavior, and Environment
The Yellow Coris Wrasse is a lively, brightly colored addition to any saltwater aquarium and is valued for its role as a natural pest controller. This species is generally peaceful and may be kept singly or in small groups. Yellow Coris Wrasses are considered reef safe with caution: while they rarely bother coral, they may consume pest invertebrates like flatworms, fireworms, and pyramidellid snails. Smaller shrimp may be fair game for large Yellow Coris Wrasses. These wrasses are excellent for mixed-reef or community aquariums with other peaceful fish.
Note that this species naturally enjoys burrowing itself in the sand (particularly at night or when stressed), so a deep sandbed is essential to their survival and stress management. Because of this necessity, we cannot guarantee these beyond live arrival.
Aquarium Requirements
A minimum tank size of 50 gallons is recommended, with a deep, fine-grained sand bed (2–3 inches) for burrowing and sleeping. Provide ample live rock for hiding and exploration. Tank decor should allow for open swimming space as well as dimly lit refuges among the rockwork.
