Japanese Swallowtail Angel (Genicanthus Melanospilos)
The Female Spotbreast Swallowtail Angelfish, also known as the Blackspot Angelfish or Swallowtail Angel, is a graceful and peaceful addition to any saltwater aquarium. Native to the Indo-Pacific, this species is prized for its elegant appearance, active swimming, and true reef-safe reputation.
Appearance:
Females are easily recognized by their vibrant yellow back, pale grey to bluish-white underside, and a striking blue tail fin edged with bold black margins. Their streamlined body and deeply forked “swallowtail” tail fin add to their beauty and agility. Unlike males, females lack vertical striping and the prominent black spot on the breast.
Behavior & Compatibility:
Female Spotbreast Swallowtail Angelfish are exceptionally peaceful and thrive in community and reef aquariums. They can be kept singly, in pairs, or as part of a harem (one male with several females) in larger tanks. These angels are true reef-safe fish, rarely if ever nipping at corals or sessile invertebrates, making them an excellent choice for reef aquariums. They do best with other peaceful tank mates.
