False Lemon Peel Angel (Centropyge Heraldi)
Also Known As: Herald's Angelfish
Compatibility and Behavior
The False Lemon Peel Angel is essentially all yellow, all the time. Its body is a clean, uniform canary to golden yellow from nose to tail, without the blue eye ring that distinguish the true Lemon Peel Angel. It's a simpler look, but that solid satin-yellow color pops beautifully against dark rockwork and makes it easy to spot as it moves through the aquascape. Temperament is fairly typical for the genus: semi-peaceful with most community fish, but potentially territorial toward other dwarf angels or similarly shaped tankmates, particularly in tighter quarters. One dwarf angel per tank is the safer approach in systems under 100 gallons. Reef safety is individual, as it tends to be with Centropyge. Many hobbyists keep them in mixed reefs without problems, but some fish will nip at soft corals, LPS, zoanthids, or clam mantles, particularly if underfed or confined.
Aquarium Requirements
False Lemon Peel Angels do best in mature, established systems with plenty of live rock. Caves, ledges, and crevices give them security and natural surfaces to graze the algae films and biofilms they pick at throughout the day. They're adaptable when it comes to lighting and flow, but stable water quality and solid biological filtration matter more than hitting any specific parameter. Feed a varied diet that covers both sides of their omnivorous needs: spirulina and algae-based foods, nori, and quality pellets for the grazing side, plus meaty offerings like mysis and brine shrimp to round things out. Keeping them consistently well-fed is one of the more reliable ways to reduce any temptation to nip at corals.
