Afr Leopard Wrasse EXPERT (Macropharyngodon Bipartitus)
Also Known As: Female Blue Star Leopard Wrasse
Compatibility, Behavior, and Environment
The African Leopard Wrasse is a strikingly patterned, peaceful reef dweller ideally suited for mature community aquariums. This wrasse is known for its active foraging, spending the day exploring live rock and sand in search of small invertebrates. It is reef safe and rarely bothers corals or ornamental inverts, making it a great choice for most reef setups. African Leopard Wrasses do best with other peaceful tank mates and may become stressed if kept with aggressive species.
Note that this species naturally enjoys burrowing itself in the sand (particularly at night or when stressed), so a deep sandbed is essential to their survival and stress management.
We only receive female African Leopard Wrasses. Males are duller in color and unfortunately not as frequently found in circulation.
Aquarium Requirements
Provide a tank of at least 50 gallons with ample mature live rock and a deep, fine sand bed (2 inches or more) for burrowing. A well-established aquarium is necessary for long-term success, offering plenty of natural pods, worms, and crustaceans for foraging. Multiple daily feedings of varied, meaty foods—including mysis, copepods, and enriched pellets—support their high activity and picky appetites.
