Clown Tang (Acanthurus Lineatus)
Key Facts
Also Known As: Lined Surgeonfish, Blue-lined Surgeonfish,
Compatibility, Behavior, and Environment: Like other Tangs of the Acanthurus family, Clown Tangs are one of the more territorial and aggressive Tang species. It can definitely coexist in harmony with other Tangs and fish, but it should be introduced simultaneously, or as one of the last additions to reduce chances of aggression, especially if you are looking to mix it with another Acanthurus Tang.
When mixing this fish with other Tangs, it is especially important to ensure there is plenty of room and food in the tank to uphold the peace. It requires a spacious environment with plenty of swimming room and abundant live rock for grazing on algae. This tang is reef-safe and overall peaceful with non-Tang species, and is best suited for a well-established tank that offers a stable environment to thrive.
Aquarium Requirements: Recommended tank size will be dependent on the size of the Tang you order, but plan for at least 60 gallons for a small Tang, and 125+ gallons for a Md or larger Tang. The tank layout should include plenty of rockwork and a consistent source of algae and seaweed for grazing.
