Debelius Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus Adornatus)
Also Known As: Red-Fin Fairy Wrasse, Koi Fairy Wrasse
Compatibility and Behavior The Debelius Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus adornatus) is a graceful fairy wrasse from the Western Indian Ocean, recognizable by its elegant pink and red tones and the distinct Koi-like splotches near the dorsal fin that set it apart from other Cirrhilabrus species. It's generally reef safe with corals and most ornamental invertebrates, and tends to mix well with other peaceful fish of similar size. Given space and compatible tankmates, most individuals settle in comfortably and spend their days gliding through the midwater column — particularly lively during feeding time and social interactions.
Aquarium Requirements A covered, well-oxygenated reef with open swimming space and plenty of live rock is the sweet spot for this species. It's a midwater cruiser that appreciates room to move, with rock caves and overhangs available for shelter and nighttime retreat. Moderate flow that creates gentle, natural currents — paired with solid filtration and a mature biological system — suits its active lifestyle well. A tight-fitting lid or mesh screen is non-negotiable; fairy wrasses jump, especially during courtship chases or when startled. Multiple small feedings throughout the day of suspended meaty foods work best, allowing it to feed naturally in the water column the way it would over a reef slope.
