Fusi Goby (Fusigobius Sp)
Also Known As: Transparent Cave Goby, Ghost Goby
Compatibility and Behavior
The Fusi Goby (Fusigobius sp.) is a "now you see it" kind of fish. Its clear to pale, translucent body lets its internal structure show faintly through, giving it a real glass-fish quality, dressed up with fine orange or rust-colored spots and a subtle blue sheen across the fins under aquarium lighting. It's a fish for the detail-oriented reefer, best appreciated in a small to mid-size tank where you can watch it hop from one piece of rubble to the next. It's reef safe and peaceful toward most tankmates, spending much of its time hovering just above sand and rocky rubble, picking off tiny crustaceans and suspended particles rather than heavily turning over the whole sand bed the way the larger sleeper gobies do. It can get territorial with its own kind in tight spaces, so it's usually kept singly in smaller tanks, or as a small group introduced together in a larger system with plenty of hiding spots to break up sightlines.
Aquarium Requirements
Its small size but robust body makes this a versatile fish, comfortable in an established tank around 30 gallons or larger with a mix of fine sand or small-grain substrate and scattered live rock or rubble. It particularly appreciates branching rock, caves, and crevices, which give it both retreats and vantage points to hunt from. Because it feeds largely on small crustaceans and zooplankton in and around the rock, a biologically mature tank with healthy microfauna and gentle to moderate flow supports its most natural behavior. A tight-fitting lid or mesh screen is important, since even a small goby can jump if startled. And while it'll pick at natural food in the tank, it still relies on regular offerings of fine, meaty foods near the bottom to hold good body condition, so plan on frozen mysis and brine, copepods, cyclops, and quality micro pellets once or twice a day.
