Gem Tang EXPERT (Zebrasoma Gemmatum)
Key Facts
Also Known As: Gemmatum Tang
Visual Traits: The Gem Tang is a true jewel of the ocean and one of the most sought-after of all saltwater fish. This showpiece fish features a sleek black body punctuated with a constellation of white spots that shimmer like stars in the night sky. It also features a distinctly golden-yellow tail, and yellow accents on its pectoral fins that add a splash of color to this unique-looking stunner.
Compatibility, Behavior, and Environment: The Gem Tang is generally peaceful towards other fish, but can exhibit territorial behavior towards other tangs and surgeonfish, especially in smaller tanks. It thrives in a spacious environment with plenty of swimming room and abundant live rock for grazing on algae, which is essential for its diet.
Aquarium Requirements: A mature tank of at least 100 gallons is necessary to provide the Gem Tang with a suitable habitat that supports its swimming and grazing needs. The aquarium should feature plenty of live rock for algae grazing and territorial marking, along with open swimming areas to accommodate its active lifestyle. A stable environment with consistent water quality is critical for maintaining the health and coloration of this exquisite fish.
