Compatibility and Behavior
Katherine’s Fairy Wrasse is a vibrant Cirrhilabrus species known for their military-green and red coloration and graceful, distinctly elongated pelvic/ventral fins that hang below the body. It is peaceful and reef-safe, and can mix well with most community fish. Adult males tend to flash brighter colors than their female counterparts. This species is also one of the larger of the Cirrhilabrus species we carry, making it a versatile option for both reef and fish-only tanks.
Note that this species will change color and display a mottled appearance when stressed (as pictured, these are tough to capture on camera in an isolated environment), but they are generally a beautiful green and red coloration.
Aquarium Requirements
Provide a mature saltwater aquarium of at least 75 gallons with plenty of open swimming space and a solid amount of live rock for shelter and sleeping retreats. Katherine’s Fairy Wrasse usually sleeps within the rockwork rather than burying in the sand, so caves, ledges, and shaded crevices are important. A tight-fitting lid or mesh top is essential, as this species can jump when startled, chased, or during lighting transitions. Stable water quality, moderate flow, and frequent small feedings help maintain its energy levels and bright coloration.
