Orange Back Fairy Wrasse Male (Cirrhilabrus Aurantidorsalis)
Compatibility and Behavior The Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse is one of those species that genuinely stands out even in a tank full of colorful fish. The bold orange patch on its back is unmistakable — paired with vivid magenta tones, it's consistently one of the most striking fairy wrasses available in the hobby. It also tends to run larger than many of its Cirrhilabrus relatives, and we regularly receive fat, healthy specimens directly from our supplier. Temperament-wise, this is an easy-going species — generally peaceful and reef safe with most community fish and ornamental invertebrates, and equally at home in a mixed reef or a fish-only system.
Aquarium Requirements A 75-gallon or larger mature saltwater aquarium gives this active mid-to-upper water column swimmer the room it needs to really stretch out and show off. Plenty of open swimming space is the priority, but don't skimp on the rockwork — this species tends to seek out caves, ledges, and shaded crevices at night, so having those structures available helps it feel secure. Unlike many of the wrasses we carry, the Orange Back does not require a sandy substrate, which simplifies things for bare-bottom and minimal-sand setups. A tight-fitting lid or mesh top is essential; fairy wrasses are capable jumpers, and this species is no exception. Steady filtration, moderate flow, and frequent small meaty feedings round out the care requirements.
