Rhomboid Wrasse Male EXPERT (Cirrhilabrus Rhomboidalis)
Also Known As: Golden Rhomboid Wrasse Male
Compatibility and Behavior The male Rhomboid Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis) is one of the more spectacular fairy wrasses in the hobby. Mature males carry a glowing golden to yellow body overlaid with lavender and violet tones, a rhomboid-shaped mark near the tail, and elongated dorsal and tail fins edged in electric purple that flare dramatically during display — a sight that's genuinely hard to do justice to in a description. Like the female, it's reef safe with corals and clams and generally coexists well with peaceful community fish and other fairy or flasher wrasses in a suitably sized system. Males can become more assertive toward other Cirrhilabrus species though, so thoughtful tankmate selection and plenty of visual barriers in the aquascape go a long way toward keeping things harmonious.
Live Arrival Guarantee: Due to their environmental sensitivity and rarity, Rhomboid Wrasses are only guaranteed for live arrival. These wrasses do best in mature and peaceful systems.
Aquarium Requirements Males thrive in mature reef aquariums that balance generous open water for active swimming with intricate rockwork offering caves, overhangs, and sheltered retreats for nighttime resting. No sand bed is required — this species doesn't bury — but a branching or shelf-style aquascape with multiple hiding options helps it feel secure. A 70-gallon minimum with strong yet varied flow and stable water quality gives it the conditions it needs to stay active and display at its best. A secure, tight-fitting lid is non-negotiable; males are particularly prone to jumping during chasing and display behavior. Frequent feedings of mysis, enriched brine shrimp, and finely chopped meaty marine fare will keep its coloration intense and its energy levels high.
