Compatibility and Behavior
The male Temminckii Fairy Wrasse is a vibrant Cirrhilabrus species that brings constant motion and flashes of color to the mid and upper water column. This species does feature a decent amount of color variation, but all generally feature the gorgeous contrasting red accents on the face and across the body and fins. It is peaceful toward most community fish and is widely regarded as reef safe. However, as one of the bigger Cirrhilabrus species, well-established males can be moderately aggressive toward other fairy wrasses, especially new Cirrhilabrus additions or similar-looking males in smaller tanks. The Temminckii Fairy Wrasse also features graceful, elongated pelvic/ventral fins just like the Katherine’s Wrasse, and is overall one of the hardier fairy wrasse species out there.
Aquarium Requirements
Provide a mature saltwater aquarium of at least 70 gallons with open swimming space and plenty of live rock for cover and nighttime retreats. Temminck Fairy Wrasses usually sleep within the rockwork rather than burying in sand, so caves, ledges, and shaded crevices are important for their sense of security. A tight-fitting lid or mesh top is essential, as this species can jump when startled or chased.
